Hybris II for String Quartet & performance artist
String quartet composed in 2010, revised as stage music in 2013.
The myth of the river Styx suggests that, in order for the souls crossing the river to take part with their human life and enter the other world, they had to wash their face with the waters of Styx to be freed of their earthly memories.
The pieces is a passacaglie of gestures which turn from noise into melodic material, passing through the breathing rhythm of a live performer.
The live performer has a thoughts score and instructions of how to interact with the live music, beginning as reactive to the music and arriving to trigger the music itself.
Recording from Goedlaak Collective's concert series at Laaktheater, The Hague in January 2014.
